Dowlas Weston Gateway Business Park Update

06 May 2013

Dowlas UK Ltd are the local firm of developers responsible for building of Weston Gateway Bsuiness Park, on the A370 that leads on the Junction 21 of the M5.

Dowlas UK Ltd is the enabling developer for the site and sits between the landowners and the client.Gemma Hughes (Director)

says the aim of the project is to offer commercial development land and create business opportunities and jobs.

“Knightstone Housing has already moved in to the site and we have an agreement with the landowners to fill the site over the next six-years.

“The opportunities are enormous here and there is a hive of activity surrounding the site. Knightstone’s new offices will be completed soon and planning permission has now been granted to build a hungry horse pub courtesy of Greene King. Work will begin on this in April 2013.”

At Weston Gateway Business Park there are seven plots – marked A to G. Plot B will be occupied by Knightstone Housing .

Leading pub retailer, Greene King, have successfully secured Plot G at the business park and hope to be open for business later this year. Greene King has taken plot G and there is strong interest for the remaining five. Gemma comments: “Much of the interest for the vacant plots is coming from organisations outside of North Somerset looking to re-locate and create jobs. There have been some very interesting names but unfortunately these can’t be revealed at this moment.”

All plots have secured outline planning permission for a variety of commercial and leisure uses, including hotel, office, light industrial and trade counter units. The site as a whole is now fully serviced with the main roads and entry to plots laid.

The idea for the site was conceived several years ago by John Filer, who was the founder of the developers Dowlas. John though, sadly passed away in the summer of 2012 but together with her father’s previous business partner Bob Carlton-Porter, Gemma Hughes is now spearheading the development.

In honour of John, North Somerset Council has agreed to name the road leading up to the development – Filer’s Way.

It’s a particularly proud and poignant project for Dowlas UK Ltd, as the company is based in Weston-super-Mare and Gemma herself grew up in the town and currently lives just outside in Cheddar. Along with the Weston Gateway Business Park project Gemma also splits her time completing a post graduate diploma in Law and dedicating herself to her to young family.
